German authorities and NATO are investigating a security breach at Leipzig/Halle Airport after a drone carrying suspected explosives was found near a Ukrainian cargo plane.

German law enforcement and NATO security personnel are investigating after an unauthorized drone carrying suspected explosive material was secured near a Ukrainian Antonov An-124 cargo aircraft at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The security alert occurred overnight on 5 August, forcing the eastern German aviation hub to temporarily suspend flight operations and divert several incoming passenger and cargo flights.

According to police and official statements, the unmanned aerial vehicle was detected in close proximity to the runway and the parked Ukrainian freighter. Security forces secured the device to analyze its origin and intent. Operations at Leipzig/Halle Airport have since returned to normal following the disruption.
