German and Danish intelligence agencies warn of expanding Russian hybrid threats
European security agencies warn of Russian hybrid operations, including over 100 suspected sabotage cases in Germany and active attack plans in Denmark.
German authorities are investigating more than 100 cases of suspected state-backed sabotage and drone overflights targeting military assets and critical infrastructure. According to media reports, the German government plans to formally attribute an August explosive drone attack attempt at Leipzig Airport to Moscow. The incident targeted Ukrainian cargo planes and was only thwarted due to a faulty detonator.
German domestic intelligence services also suspect that clandestine weapon caches may have been established inside Germany to facilitate future physical attacks. Meanwhile, Denmark’s domestic intelligence agency, PET, issued a public warning stating that Russian intelligence services are actively planning sabotage operations on Danish soil and attempting to recruit local informants. European security officials note that these hybrid methods aim to destabilise Western institutions and erode support for Ukraine.
