French firefighters stabilized a 100-hectare wildfire in Aude, though another blaze remains active in difficult terrain as national burned land reaches 115,000 hectares this year.

Firefighters in France have contained a wildfire in Montséret within the Aude department's Corbières massif after it burned 100 hectares. The blaze prompted emergency responses involving 240 firefighters and 10 aircraft, while authorities instructed residents in neighboring Saint-André-de-Roquelongue to stay indoors. Meanwhile, another Aude wildfire near Puilaurens remains active at 225 hectares due to inaccessible terrain.

Across other regions, conditions have improved. Blazes in the Var department are extinguished, although access to seven forest areas remains restricted because of severe fire risks. Fires in the Drôme and Gironde regions are no longer advancing. Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu is scheduled to visit Gironde on August 17 to coordinate reconstruction efforts. Official figures indicate wildfires have destroyed over 115,000 hectares in France since the start of the year.
