France's Constitutional Council validated end-of-life legislation while striking down a general social media ban for minors under 15 as disproportionate.

France’s Constitutional Council has approved landmark end-of-life legislation establishing a conditional right to assisted dying, while striking down a proposed social media ban for minors under 15.

The court validated the end-of-life legislation in full, subject to three interpretative reservations, notably guaranteeing a conscience clause for private and religious healthcare facilities. Magistrates noted they would not substitute their judgment for parliament on a societal issue of this scale. The court also upheld an emergency agricultural reform package.

However, the Council invalidated Article 1 of President Emmanuel Macron’s digital safety bill, ruling that a general social media ban for under-15s disproportionately infringed upon personal freedoms. President Macron welcomed the end-of-life ruling, calling the process an "exemplary democratic debate."
