Former Ukrainian minister Fedorov urges parliament to prepare wartime election rules

Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged Ukraine's parliament to draft legal frameworks for future elections while martial law remains active.
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on the country's parliament to begin drafting legal frameworks for future post-war elections. Under current Ukrainian law, holding elections is prohibited while martial law remains in effect due to Russia's ongoing invasion.
Fedorov, who was dismissed from his post by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, argued that early legislative preparation is necessary to resolve complex logistical hurdles. Key challenges include securing voting rights for soldiers deployed on the frontlines and managing voting access for millions of displaced Ukrainians residing across Europe. Supporters maintain that early planning will ensure democratic integrity once martial law is lifted.
