Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov urged Ukraine's parliament to draft legal provisions for future post-war elections, aiming to overcome logistical barriers early.

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on the country's parliament to begin drafting legislative preparations for national elections to be held once martial law is eventually lifted.

Fedorov, who was removed from his post by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, stressed that early planning is vital to resolve complex logistical challenges before any voting can occur. Ukrainian law currently forbids holding elections while martial law remains in force. However, supporters of early legal preparation argue that establishing rules in advance is crucial to protect the voting rights of millions of displaced Ukrainians abroad and soldiers serving on the front lines. Preparing these provisions early aims to ensure democratic continuity as soon as national security conditions allow.
