Former Ukrainian defense minister urges parliament to prepare for post-war elections

Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has asked Ukraine's parliament to draft legal frameworks for holding post-war elections once martial law ends.
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged the national parliament to begin creating legal frameworks for post-war elections. Martial law, imposed following Russia's invasion, currently prohibits holding elections in Ukraine. Fedorov, who was dismissed from his post by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, stressed that early preparation is essential to resolve significant logistical obstacles.
Key difficulties include guaranteeing voting access for millions of displaced citizens across Europe and enabling frontline military personnel to participate safely. Advocates contend that establishing guidelines now will safeguard democratic standards whenever martial law is ultimately rescinded.
