Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged Ukraine's parliament to draft legal frameworks for elections to take place as soon as martial law is lifted.

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged the country's parliament to begin drafting legislation to facilitate national elections once martial law ends. Fedorov, a popular official who was dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, stressed that advance legislative preparation is essential for a seamless transition back to democratic processes following the end of hostilities.

Under Ukrainian law, holding elections is explicitly prohibited while martial law remains in force. However, discussions surrounding post-war political governance have intensified in Kyiv. Key challenges include establishing voting mechanisms for millions of displaced citizens living abroad and service personnel deployed on active front lines. Fedorov asserted that creating a legal foundation now will prevent unnecessary delays when the war concludes.
