Five killed after Amazon cargo plane overruns Miami runway and hits vehicles
All five victims killed in the Miami Amazon cargo plane crash were occupants of vehicles hit after the aircraft overran the runway, officials confirmed.
An investigation is underway following Sunday's fatal runway excursion involving an Amazon Prime Air Boeing 767-300 cargo plane at Miami International Airport. National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy confirmed that all five deceased victims were occupants of vehicles struck by the aircraft after it breached the airfield boundary.
The aircraft, operated by 21 Air as Flight 7598 from San Juan, Puerto Rico, failed to stop upon landing around 2:00 p.m. local time. It collided with an airport cleaning service van carrying seven people and an SUV traveling outside the airport perimeter before catching fire.
Five additional people were hospitalized, including two pilots, with three individuals reported in critical condition. Emergency crews extinguished the blaze while federal authorities examined widespread wreckage at the scene.
