A Finnish volunteer fighter from the war in Ukraine has been detained in Russia, while reports highlight severe manpower shortages in the Russian military.
A Finnish combatant who volunteered to fight alongside Ukrainian forces has been detained in Russia on mercenary charges, according to Helsingin Sanomat. The man in his fifties, identified by the pseudonym "Mikael," was captured following a journey to Africa. This marks the first recorded instance of a Finnish foreign fighter from the war in Ukraine being held in Russian custody.
Concurrently, reports cited by Iltalehti highlight severe manpower deficits within the Russian military. An interviewed Russian soldier stated that few conscripts from earlier waves remain active, fueling speculation about potential new mobilization efforts by Moscow.
