Record low river levels in Europe reveal ancient shipwrecks and mammoth bones as severe heat and dry conditions persist across the continent.

Severe heat continues to affect Central Europe, with forecasters anticipating peak temperatures reaching up to 39 degrees Celsius alongside risks of heavy thunderstorms. Receding water levels along major commercial routes like the Rhine and the Danube have disrupted freight transport, strained drinking water supplies, and compromised local ecosystems.

In addition to economic and environmental disruptions, the historically low water marks have exposed previously submerged objects across dried riverbeds, including ancient shipwrecks and mammoth bones. Meanwhile, emergency personnel remain on alert for potential vegetation fires near border areas as unseasonably warm weather is expected to persist into the weekend.
