EU warns Moscow as Russia targets Ukrainian energy grid
Russia launched renewed drone strikes on Kyiv and declared a campaign against Ukraine's energy grid, while the EU issued warnings over German drone incidents.
Russian forces launched fresh overnight drone strikes on Kyiv, injuring a civilian following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's address to the United Nations General Assembly. Concurrently, Russia's Defense Ministry announced a military campaign specifically targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
In response, Ukrainian forces escalated drone strikes against Russian petroleum facilities and oil refineries, causing domestic supply disruptions that forced Moscow to source fuel abroad.
Simultaneously, European security concerns heightened after German authorities identified two Moscow-linked suspects in connection with explosive drones discovered near infrastructure in Leipzig. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warned that the European Union "will not tolerate attacks on EU soil" and announced readiness to respond.
