Severe drought has pushed Croatia's Drava and Danube rivers to historic low levels, while reports diverge on whether local drinking water supplies face disruptions.

Widespread heatwaves and persistent drought continue to affect southern and central Europe, causing severe environmental strain. Record-low water levels have been recorded along the Drava and Danube rivers in eastern Croatia, with several measuring stations logging historic drops.

Reporting differs, however, regarding the immediate impact on municipal infrastructure. Regional news outlet Siol.net reported that several areas, including Istria, the island of Krk, Zadar, and parts of western Slavonia, are experiencing drinking water supply disruptions due to high consumption and lack of rainfall. In contrast, news agency Beta cited national water authority Hrvatske vode, which stated that public drinking water supplies remain secure in both quality and quantity despite the increased demand. Meteorologists expect river levels to remain largely static over the coming days as summer heat reaches its peak.
