U.S. President Donald Trump suggested a deal on the Strait of Hormuz could occur soon, despite declining maritime traffic and continued warnings from Iran.

U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that an agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz could be reached soon, while simultaneously playing down the necessity for direct talks with Tehran. Describing diplomatic efforts as "like a chess game," Trump insisted that the maritime route remains "open and operational." However, commercial shipping through the critical waterway fell by an additional 20 percent last week following a recent attack on a vessel.

Iran maintained that the strategic passage will remain restricted until Washington shifts its policy stance. Tehran rejected claims of direct negotiations with the U.S. while continuing discussions with Oman to establish secure maritime corridors for commercial traffic. Iranian officials warned of possible offensive action if diplomatic avenues fail, while Washington threatened military escalation should American objectives in the region be hindered.
