Donald Trump hosts Xi Jinping at White House for high-level security talks

US President Donald Trump held high-level discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House, focusing on major international security issues including the war in Ukraine, the crisis in the Middle East, and stability on the Korean Peninsula. The event marks Xi’s first official state visit to the United States in over ten years.

The discussions followed requests from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for Washington to urge Beijing toward encouraging Russian de-escalation. Analysts noted that Beijing might seek reciprocal concessions from Washington in exchange for adjusting its diplomatic alignment regarding Moscow. Trump greeted Xi directly at his aircraft upon arrival, repeating a rare protocol gesture previously reserved for Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting in Alaska.
