Disagreements over migrant numbers and political fallout in Madrid intensify following the recent border surge in Ceuta.

Disagreements persist over the scale and management of the recent migration surge in Ceuta. Regional leaders estimate that up to 80,000 people attempted entry, leaving around 6,000 in the enclave. In contrast, Spain's central government reports 2,500 remaining migrants, including approximately 500 unaccompanied minors.

Humanitarian efforts continue as local authorities estimate up to 88 fatalities connected to the crossing. To assist affected families and identify victims, the Guardia Civil established a specialized office to handle missing person reports.

The situation has created political friction in Madrid. Ministerial disagreements surfaced between the Interior and Defense departments regarding military involvement in detaining and deporting migrants. Simultaneously, the central government dismissed a National Security Department communications official following an unauthorized public alert stating 49,000 migrants had entered the territory.
