Preliminary findings reveal the AVE train hit a stationary Iryo convoy at up to 200 km/h near Urda, raising the fatality count to 69.

The death toll from the high-speed rail collision near Urda, Toledo, has risen to 69, according to preliminary findings from Spain's technical accident investigation authority, AITAT. Investigators estimate that the AVE train, carrying 397 passengers, struck the rear of a stationary Iryo train carrying 146 passengers at speeds between 160 and 200 kilometers per hour.

The impact derailed two carriages down an embankment, leaving around 150 people injured. Casualty figures initially varied across media reports, ranging from 46 to 64 as emergency services worked through the wreckage. High-speed rail traffic along the corridor connecting Madrid and Andalusia remains suspended while technical investigations and recovery operations proceed.
