Over 1,800 people have died in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Ebola outbreak as total cases approach 4,000 and international aid increases.

The Ebola outbreak in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo has claimed over 1,800 lives as total reported cases approach 4,000, according to health ministry figures from August 4. The country's Ministry of Health reported a case fatality rate of 45.3 percent, with Ituri province remaining the epicenter of transmission across five affected provinces.

Efforts to contain the virus continue to struggle against rising infection numbers. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus visited the region to assess emergency containment operations, while the United States announced millions of dollars in additional funding to support the medical response. Despite frontline interventions, contact tracing rates currently stand at 75.3 percent, with over 600 patients remaining isolated or hospitalized.
