Croatian President Zoran Milanović will seek an extraordinary parliamentary session over hazardous waste in Lika, amid opposition calls for a no-confidence vote.

Croatian President Zoran Milanović will formally request an extraordinary session of parliament over the illegal dumping of hazardous waste in the Lika region. The move comes as the opposition Social Democratic Party pursues a vote of no confidence against the governing coalition following the environmental incident in Gospić.

Elsewhere in southern Europe, Greek emergency crews deployed aircraft and ground units west of Athens to contain a major wildfire near Megara. In Malta, court proceedings continued in the murder trial over the 2017 assassination of investigative reporter Daphne Caruana Galizia, examining her probes into business and political figures. Separately, the Reuters Institute's Digital News Report 2026 revealed that 63 percent of surveyed citizens in Croatia occasionally or regularly avoid news media, representing one of the highest levels globally.
