CHP leader Özel condemns AKP municipal takeover in Üsküdar

CHP leader Özgür Özel has criticized President Erdoğan over political moves in Üsküdar while defending Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavaş's recent presidency meeting.
Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Özgür Özel has strongly criticized President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following the ruling Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) acquisition of the Üsküdar deputy presidency in Istanbul.
Speaking at a rally in Üsküdar and during a television appearance on Koza TV, Özel described the local vote outcome as one of the darkest moments in Turkish political history. He directly questioned Erdoğan’s democratic credentials, noting that CHP had won the district through legitimate elections.
Additionally, Özel commented on Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş's recent meeting with Erdoğan. He defended the encounter, stating that communication between local administrators and the presidency remains crucial for public service, despite ongoing political competition.
