Canada has imposed retaliatory tariffs of up to 50 percent on C$28 billion in American goods after bilateral trade negotiations with the United States collapsed.

Following the collapse of bilateral trade talks, Canada has announced retaliatory tariffs of up to 50 percent on approximately C$28 billion ($20 billion) worth of American goods. The measures respond to 50 percent Section 338 import duties enacted by the United States against roughly $20 billion in Canadian exports.

Ottawa's counter-tariffs target a wide selection of US products, including steel, furniture, apparel, and agricultural goods. Prime Minister Mark Carney suspended further trade negotiations, reiterating that Canada would match the American tariffs "dollar for dollar." Alongside the trade barriers, Canadian officials outlined plans to roll out domestic financial support to protect workers and affected industries from potential economic disruption.

US officials previously warned that retaliatory measures could lead to additional trade restrictions as economic tensions between the historic allies continue to intensify.
