Canada has introduced up to 50 percent counter-tariffs on $20 billion in US imports following the failure of trade talks and newly imposed American duties.

Canada has formally announced retaliatory tariffs of up to 50 percent on approximately C$28 billion ($20 billion) worth of American goods following the collapse of bilateral trade negotiations. The Canadian counter-measures cover a broad array of imports, including apparel, furniture, steel, and agricultural products.

The move follows the implementation of 50 percent duties by the United States on $20 billion of Canadian exports, affecting around five percent of Canada's annual shipments south of the border. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney suspended negotiations, pledging that Ottawa would match American levies "dollar for dollar." Alongside the counter-tariffs, the Canadian government is rolling out economic assistance packages to buffer domestic industries and workers from ongoing supply chain disruptions. US President Donald Trump warned that additional duties could follow if a resolution is not reached.
