Canada has announced matching tariffs of up to 50 percent on $20 billion in US goods following the breakdown of bilateral trade talks and initial US import duties.

Following the breakdown of bilateral trade negotiations, retaliatory measures between Canada and the United States have taken effect after US President Donald Trump implemented 50 percent duties on roughly $20 billion in Canadian goods. In response, Ottawa announced matching counter-tariffs reaching up to 50 percent on nearly C$28 billion ($20 billion) worth of American imports.

The Canadian sanctions target a range of products, including steel, furniture, apparel, and agricultural goods. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed the countermeasures while pledging financial assistance to mitigate the economic fallout for domestic businesses and workers. The initial American tariffs affect approximately five percent of Canada's annual exports to the United States, with President Trump threatening further rate hikes if the dispute remains unresolved.
