Ukraine advances near Kupiansk and Lyman while Russia claims gains near Sumy
Ukrainian forces report progress near Kupiansk and Lyman, while Russian authorities claim territorial gains near Sumy and deny Ukrainian advances in Zaporizhzhia.
Heavy fighting continues across multiple sectors in eastern and northern Ukraine as opposing military leaderships issue contrasting operational updates. Ukrainian forces have reportedly made progress along the right bank of the Oskil River north of Kupiansk, with officials also preparing to announce the recapture of roughly 200 square kilometres near Lyman.
Conversely, Russia's Ministry of Defence claimed its troops captured several settlements on the approaches to Sumy. In the Zaporizhzhia sector, Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov publicly denied assertions of recent Ukrainian tactical progress. Meanwhile, Russian air strikes targeted ammunition storage facilities in the Kyiv region overnight.
