EU extends sanctions against Russia as strikes continue across border areas
The EU extended sanctions against Russia as diplomatic developments unfolded alongside continuing civilian casualties and drone strikes in both nations.
The European Union has prolonged its sanctioning framework against Russia following recent escalations in the conflict. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas alongside French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned a Russian assault on a train positioned near the Ukrainian-Polish border, arguing that the strike was intended to intimidate European nations and create political strife.
Concurrently, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed both Kyiv and Moscow concurred on halting strikes against energy infrastructure. In Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky officially dismissed the country's prosecutor general via a presidential decree.
Hostilities persist on the frontlines. Ukrainian officials stated that Russian bombardments in the Kherson area resulted in two deaths and 14 injuries. Simultaneously, drone attacks across Russia's Belgorod region and the coastal city of Sochi injured seven people.
