Turkey records dozens of August femicides as Siirt court accepts murder indictment
Rights groups report dozens of femicides in Turkey during August, while a court in Siirt accepts an indictment charging five suspects in a murder case.
Turkish rights organisations and independent media have published updated statistics on gender-based violence for August, as judicial proceedings move forward in a homicide investigation in Siirt.
Data from the We Will Stop Femicide Platform recorded 22 femicides and 33 suspicious female deaths during August, with 55 percent of the killings occurring inside victims' homes. Separately, news outlet Bianet documented at least 25 women killed and 71 injured in male violence across the country over the same period.
Meanwhile, the Siirt 1st High Criminal Court accepted an indictment charging five suspects over the October 2024 disappearance and murder of a mother of four. State prosecutors relied on digital footprints, phone records, and vehicle location data to resolve the case.
