Sweden Democrats restructure leadership and demand cabinet posts despite election losses
The Sweden Democrats are reorganizing top leadership and demanding cabinet seats despite experiencing their first national vote drop, while maintaining strong local support in Färgelanda.
The Sweden Democrats (SD) are undergoing internal changes after experiencing their first drop in parliamentary support, falling from 20.5 percent in 2022 to 17.5 percent. The decline, driven by shifts toward the Moderate Party particularly among younger voters, was characterized by party representatives as concerning.
Following the results, SD announced a reshuffle among its senior parliamentary figures. Outgoing group leader Linda Lindberg minimized suggestions of internal conflict, maintaining that "there is no dissatisfaction with anyone." Despite the national setback, party leader Jimmie Åkesson asserted that "there is no obvious winner in this election" and reaffirmed SD's demands for cabinet positions in government negotiations.
In contrast to national trends, the party recorded strong municipal support in Färgelanda, securing 39 percent of the local vote following debates on school policy.
