EU extends Russia sanctions as fighting continues despite Trump energy deal claim
The EU extended sanctions against Russia following a border-area missile strike, while fighting continues despite claimed agreements to stop targeting energy infrastructure.
The European Union has prolonged its sanction measures against Russia after a missile hit a train close to the border between Ukraine and Poland. EU diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated the attack was designed to create divisions and intimidate European nations.
The sanctions decision arrived as US President Donald Trump claimed that Moscow and Kyiv had consented to halt attacks against energy infrastructure. Despite these reported assurances, military clashes persist. Recent Russian shelling in Ukraine's Kherson region left two individuals dead and 14 wounded. Concurrently, Ukrainian drone strikes reportedly injured seven people across Russia's Sochi and Belgorod regions.
In a separate domestic development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an official decree removing the nation's prosecutor general from office.
