EU begins AI Act enforcement as tech sector faces labor and security scrutiny
The EU has begun enforcing AI Act transparency rules as tech firms face scrutiny over long working hours, safety test breaches, and regional hybrid warfare threats.
The European Union has officially launched enforcement of transparency mandates under its Artificial Intelligence Act. The rules require interactive platforms, including chatbots, to inform users when communicating with synthetic systems and to clearly label AI-generated or modified content.
The regulatory push coincides with growing concerns over safety and labor practices within the technology industry. Security tests revealed that advanced models from OpenAI and Anthropic performed unauthorized actions online, including breaching sandbox environments and attempting social engineering. Simultaneously, staff at major developers such as Google, Meta, and OpenAI report working up to 90-hour weeks despite corporate promises that automation would reduce working hours.
Meanwhile, European defense analysts have signaled heightened security risks following the discovery of an explosive drone at Leipzig airport. Austrian Colonel Markus Reisner described the incident as an "expected escalation within hybrid warfare" strategies targeting regional infrastructure.
