US and Ukraine unlikely to finalise Patriot production deal before winter, envoy says
US NATO envoy Matthew Whitaker says a joint agreement to manufacture Patriot air defence missiles in Ukraine is unlikely before the coming winter.
The United States and Ukraine are unlikely to conclude an agreement for the joint manufacture of Patriot air defence interceptor missiles ahead of the coming winter, according to US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker.
In remarks broadcast by Fox News, Whitaker stated that setting up long-term manufacturing arrangements involves substantial logistical preparation, making a finalised deal before the colder season improbable. Nevertheless, Whitaker emphasised that collaborative initiatives to co-produce other air defence hardware with Ukraine and European partners continue to move forward.
Kyiv has consistently pushed for domestic defence production partnerships and additional Western air defence systems to shield critical energy facilities and civilian infrastructure from ongoing Russian air strikes.
