Poland explores A400M transport fleet and expands aviation maintenance infrastructure
Poland explores Airbus A400M transport aircraft acquisitions, signs a Boeing Apache maintenance deal, and conducts mid-air refuelling drills.
Poland is advancing several military aviation initiatives to modernise its air fleet and bolster NATO interoperability. Warsaw signed a non-binding letter of intent alongside six allied nations to explore the joint acquisition and operation of Airbus A400M Atlas transport planes to succeed its aging C-130 fleet. Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zalewski confirmed the country's interest, noting that procurement could potentially draw on European Union defence financing instruments.
Domestically, Polish defence manufacturer WZL-1 concluded an agreement with Boeing to establish a regional service and maintenance hub in Łódź capable of supporting at least 96 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters. Operational integration also progressed as Polish F-16 fighter jets completed mid-air refuelling drills using a French Airbus A330 MRTT tanker.
