Casualties mount across Ukraine and Russia amid intense cross-border strikes
Heavy cross-border strikes between Ukraine and Russia leave dozens dead and injured, as both sides trade air attacks and diplomatic debate continues over security aid.
A wave of escalating cross-border strikes has inflicted heavy casualties across Ukraine and Russia. Russian bombardments on the Kyiv region killed at least 17 people and injured more than 40, while glide bombs struck residential sectors in Zaporizhzhia. In response, President Volodymyr Zelensky issued renewed appeals to international partners for missile interceptors and insisted Ukraine would not surrender territory in Donbas.
Simultaneously, Ukrainian drone and missile operations targeted several Russian locations, including the outskirts of Moscow, the Belgorod border region, Crimea, and a Black Sea resort near Gelendzhik, causing multiple fatalities and injuries. Zelensky noted that Moscow has concentrated three layers of air defence around its capital and Saint Petersburg to counter persistent drone attacks.
On the diplomatic front, Zelensky expressed confidence in post-war security guarantees from Washington, while Donald Trump voiced caution regarding proposed domestic production of Patriot missile systems in Ukraine.
