German authorities track over 100 suspected Russian hybrid attacks ahead of regional elections
German security services are investigating more than 100 suspected foreign hybrid attacks, alongside targeted digital disinformation campaigns ahead of regional elections.
German security authorities are currently investigating more than one hundred incidents suspected of involving foreign state-directed sabotage and surveillance, according to media inquiries and official findings. Documented operations range from unauthorized drone activity over military installations and transport hubs to the disruption of rail networks and logistics sites.
Simultaneously, domestic intelligence agencies report an escalation in digital influence operations ahead of upcoming regional elections. Coordinated networks are circulating fabricated videos and deceptive websites aimed at discrediting mainstream political parties—including the CDU, SPD, Greens, and FDP—while sparing the AfD. Officials warn that these physical disruptions and cyber operations are intended to polarize public debate, erode trust in democratic processes, and undermine political candidates critical of Moscow.
