Patriot missile co-production delayed as Ukrainian drones hit Russian warehouses
A US-Ukraine Patriot missile production pact is delayed past winter, while Ukrainian drone strikes target Russian logistical facilities near Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Tver.
A planned joint production deal between the United States and Ukraine to manufacture Patriot interceptor missiles will not be finalized before the upcoming winter, according to US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker. Speaking in a television interview, Whitaker indicated that while broader efforts to co-produce air defence equipment alongside European allies continue, the specialized missile manufacturing agreement remains a long-term goal.
The announcement comes alongside escalating cross-border drone strikes. Russian regional officials reported that a Ukrainian drone attack on a warehouse near Moscow left at least five people dead and ten others injured. Local authorities also stated that logistics centers operated by the Russian online retailer Wildberries were struck overnight in the Saint Petersburg and Tver regions, amid widespread drone interceptions reported by Russia's defence ministry.
