Poland and Baltic allies advance air fleet modernisation across multiple platforms
Poland and Baltic allies pursue air fleet upgrades, including A400M transport talks, a Boeing Apache maintenance hub in Łódź, and A-29 counter-drone evaluations.
Poland and regional partners are expanding air force modernisation efforts spanning heavy transport, attack helicopter maintenance, and counter-drone capabilities.
Polish Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zalewski confirmed Warsaw is exploring the procurement of Airbus A400M Atlas transport aircraft to replace its aging C-130 Hercules fleet, potentially leveraging European Union financing mechanisms. Poland earlier joined six NATO allies in signing a letter of intent regarding cooperative A400M operations.
In Łódź, Polish state firm WZL-1 and Boeing finalised agreements to create an authorised service hub capable of maintaining at least 96 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters.
Concurrently, Latvian defence officials are assessing the Embraer A-29 Super Tucano to counter drone threats and border incursions, an airframe also under consideration by Polish military planners.
