Iran and Oman continue talks over Strait of Hormuz as US signals mixed progress
Diplomatic efforts between Iran and Oman over the Strait of Hormuz progress as Tehran insists on U.S. concessions and Washington offers mixed signals.
Negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding transit through the Strait of Hormuz have reached advanced stages, aimed at establishing regulated maritime corridors. However, Tehran maintains that the waterway will not fully reopen unless Washington lifts sanctions, compensates for war damages, and halts military threats. U.S. officials noted progress in the Oman-brokered talks, with President Donald Trump suggesting an agreement could materialize rapidly. Simultaneously, Trump described the situation as a "chess game," downplaying the urgency while citing Iran's economic difficulties. Elsewhere in the region, Lebanese and Israeli representatives commenced a seventh round of talks in Rome as roughly 800,000 displaced individuals returned to southern Lebanon, and an Indian vessel was sunk off Yemen's coast.
