The US announced $3 billion in critical raw material investments following a military simulation, while preparing severe new sanctions against Iran.

US President Donald Trump has unveiled a $3 billion investment initiative aimed at expanding domestic critical raw materials production and energy storage technology. The decision follows a previously unreleased military simulation conducted last summer, which exposed significant vulnerabilities in the American defense supply chain, particularly regarding high-purity aluminum needed for advanced military hardware.

Simultaneously, the US Treasury Department is preparing unprecedented economic sanctions against Iran as maritime shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains heavily disrupted. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that the forthcoming restrictions would be the harshest to date. Iranian officials rejected the moves, calling them a continuation of ineffective past strategies and reiterating that Tehran would not back down under pressure.
