Washington is investing $3 billion in critical materials following supply chain warnings, while preparing severe new sanctions against Iran.

Washington is taking steps to address domestic supply chain vulnerabilities while stepping up economic pressure on Tehran. Details from a previously confidential defense exercise revealed that the United States faces significant risks regarding its supply of high-purity aluminum during potential global conflicts. To reinforce national defense and domestic industrial capacity, US President Donald Trump announced a $3 billion investment package dedicated to strategic raw materials and energy storage projects.

Simultaneously, the US Treasury Department announced plans to impose its most severe economic sanctions against Iran to date. The decision comes amid ongoing military tensions that have severely restricted commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian leaders rejected the impending sanctions, calling them a continuation of failed policies and affirming that Tehran will not alter its position.
