US strikes Iran as regional tension rises in Yemen and Afghanistan

Military escalation and political realignments continue across the Middle East and South Asia. The United States military launched its second round of airstrikes against Iranian targets within 48 hours following rising friction in the Strait of Hormuz and strikes on American bases. Concurrently, Tehran appointed a security hardliner to lead its Supreme National Security Council.

In Yemen, renewed hostilities threatened the fragile status quo established by a 2022 truce. Houthi forces killed 18 people during consecutive days of attacks targeting the port of Moca, triggering retaliatory bombardment from government forces in the oil-rich Marib province.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan remains under strict Taliban governance. Although active armed conflict has significantly subsided, offering a rare period of relative security, the population faces severe poverty, hunger, and enforced social restrictions, including bans on music.
