US President Trump welcomes China's Xi for historic White House summit
US President Donald Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House for talks on Ukraine, the Middle East, and Korea during Xi's first US state visit in over a decade.
US President Donald Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House for high-level bilateral talks covering security crises in Ukraine, the Middle East, and the Korean Peninsula. The three-day event marks Xi's first state visit to the United States in over a decade.
Demonstrating an exceptional protocol gesture, Trump personally greeted the Chinese leader at his aircraft upon arrival. The meeting followed recent appeals from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asking Washington to urge Beijing to exert diplomatic influence on Moscow toward de-escalation. Analysts suggest Beijing may leverage its stance on Russia to seek trade or diplomatic concessions from Washington during the negotiations.
