The US commits $3 billion to critical minerals and energy storage as supply chain vulnerabilities and potential Iranian threats to European military sites emerge.

The United States has pledged $3 billion toward securing domestic supplies of critical raw materials and advancing energy storage capabilities, aiming to strengthen national defense and reduce external vulnerabilities. The federal commitment comes following a closed-door simulation involving government and industry leaders that highlighted potential disruptions in the supply chain for high-purity aluminum during military contingencies.

At the same time, regional tensions involving Iran have prompted security concerns regarding American military infrastructure abroad. Reports indicate that Iranian strategists have evaluated potential strikes against US-linked installations in Southeastern Europe, including facilities in Bulgaria, which authorized US military aircraft refueling operations. Washington continues to pursue supply chain resilience alongside measures to protect overseas assets and personnel.
