US launches economic campaign against Iran as Tehran threatens regional retaliation

Washington has launched an economic campaign against Iran, prompting Tehran to threaten neighbours collaborating with the US while maintaining its Strait of Hormuz blockade.
Washington and Tehran have intensified their standoff as US President Donald Trump declared an unprecedented economic campaign against Iran following stalled negotiations. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to present the new punitive measures on Monday.
In response, Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, warned that Iranian forces will strike the regional interests of neighbouring nations that cooperate with Washington's financial offensive.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities continue enforcing a blockade across the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has rejected limited maritime concessions, using the vital shipping corridor as strategic leverage to insist on the full execution of a 14-point memorandum signed in June, which includes sanctions relief, the unfreezing of foreign assets, and an end to restrictions on Iranian ports.
