US forces destroyed Iranian Revolutionary Guard vessels near the Strait of Hormuz following attempted attacks, triggering missile retaliations from Tehran.
Military engagements between the United States and Iran have escalated near the Strait of Hormuz following a series of retaliatory actions. US Central Command reported destroying five vessels belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps after an attempted assault on American naval ships.
In response, Iranian state media claimed Tehran launched 20 missiles targeting US military installations in Jordan and struck six maritime vessels, including three tankers and an aircraft carrier. Emergency personnel successfully extinguished a fire aboard one hit tanker.
Despite the ongoing clashes, US President Donald Trump stated that maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz remains operational. However, US intelligence officials cautioned that Iranian forces might seek to further escalate the conflict across the region.
