US announces $3 billion raw materials plan amid rising tensions with Iran

US President Donald Trump announced $3 billion for critical raw materials after a war simulation exposed supply vulnerabilities, while Washington prepares strict sanctions against Iran.
US President Donald Trump announced a $3 billion investment package to strengthen domestic production of critical raw materials and energy storage projects. The initiative aims to enhance national defense capabilities following a previously undisclosed military simulation, which highlighted severe US vulnerabilities regarding high-purity aluminum supplies during potential large-scale conflicts.
Concurrently, Washington is preparing to impose its most severe economic sanctions to date against Tehran, according to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Tensions near the Strait of Hormuz remain elevated, severely disrupting commercial maritime traffic. Iranian officials dismissed the impending measures as a repeat of a "failed policy" and insisted Tehran will not concede.
