U.S. and Iran exchange strikes near Strait of Hormuz as tensions rise

U.S. and Iranian forces have engaged in strikes around the Strait of Hormuz, with Washington destroying Iranian vessels and Tehran targeting U.S. bases in Jordan.
Military confrontations between the United States and Iran have escalated around the Strait of Hormuz following mutual military actions. According to U.S. Central Command, American forces destroyed five Iranian vessels after Tehran attempted strikes against U.S. warships. In response, Iranian forces launched 20 missiles targeting American bases in Jordan.
Iranian state media reported hitting six maritime vessels, including three tankers and an aircraft carrier, though Washington reported no critical warship damage. A commercial vessel caught fire during the clashes before crew members extinguished it. U.S. President Donald Trump maintained that the strategic shipping channel remains open, while American intelligence officials warned that Iranian forces could escalate attacks as hostilities persist.
