Tensions near the Strait of Hormuz have intensified following naval exchanges between US and Iranian forces, prompting missile retaliation from Tehran.

Tensions near the Strait of Hormuz have intensified following naval and missile exchanges between American and Iranian forces. United States Central Command stated it sank five Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vessels off Larak Island to thwart alleged mine-laying operations. Iranian military officials dismissed those assertions as "pura fantasia", denying any mine-laying activity occurred.

In retaliation, Tehran launched 20 missiles targeting American military bases in Jordan. Iranian state media also claimed its forces struck six maritime vessels, including three oil tankers and an aircraft carrier, causing a fire aboard one ship that was later contained.

US President Donald Trump insisted the Strait of Hormuz remains open, asserting Tehran faces severe difficulties. Meanwhile, American intelligence assessments warned that Iranian forces could further escalate the conflict.
