US forces destroyed five Iranian vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory missile strikes against US targets.
Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated following a series of military confrontations around the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command reported destroying five Iranian Revolutionary Guard vessels after an attempted attack on American naval ships.
In response, Iranian state media claimed Tehran launched 20 missiles targeting US military bases in Jordan and struck six maritime vessels, including three tankers and an aircraft carrier. A fire on one affected tanker was subsequently extinguished.
While US President Donald Trump stated that the strategic waterway remains open and described Iran as facing "great difficulties," American intelligence officials warned that Revolutionary Guard leaders could feel emboldened, raising concerns over further conflict.
