Tensions between the US and Iran have escalated following the expiration of a 60-day truce, amid clashes over the Strait of Hormuz and renewed regional strikes.

Tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified following the expiration of the 60-day truce established under the Islamabad memorandum.

US President Donald Trump asserted that American forces control the Strait of Hormuz and indicated the strategic maritime corridor could soon be designated US territory. In response, Iranian officials demanded the complete implementation of the June memorandum, including sanctions relief and the release of frozen assets abroad, alongside placing bounties on US military personnel. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described Israel as the main obstacle to enacting the accord.

The diplomatic stalemate coincided with renewed military activity across the region. Air defense systems intercepted two Iranian missiles over Dubai, while Houthi forces launched strikes against Yemen's port of Al Makha. In the Gulf of Oman, US forces fired upon the container ship Vela Nova, accusing it of attempting to breach transit restrictions.
