Ukrainian drone pilots face high combat strain along southern front line

Ukrainian drone operators positioned on the southern front in Zaporizhzhia are confronting intense operational risks and psychological strain as unmanned aerial systems dominate combat operations. Stationed in camouflaged rural residences, service members from the 82nd Brigade's 1st Battalion utilise concealed satellite terminals to orchestrate reconnaissance missions and deliver precision strikes.

Although operating remotely distances pilots from direct trench fighting, forward operating shelters remain frequent targets for incoming artillery and guided aerial munitions. Beyond the physical dangers of detection, soldiers encounter considerable psychological fatigue driven by continuous exposure to real-time imagery of combat engagements and battlefield casualties.
