Ukraine's former defense minister urges preparations for post-war elections

Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged Ukraine's parliament to prepare legal frameworks for future national elections once martial law ends.
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on parliament to start drafting legal frameworks for eventual post-war national elections. Fedorov, who was dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, stressed that early preparation is necessary to resolve logistical obstacles before martial law is lifted.
Key difficulties include establishing voting mechanisms for millions of Ukrainian refugees residing across Europe and soldiers stationed along the front lines. Ukrainian law currently forbids holding elections during martial law. Fedorov argued that proactively developing electoral legislation will guarantee democratic continuity and facilitate a smooth transition once hostilities cease.
